Marble Queen Sword is a cultivated variety of Echinodorus, developed from South American sword plant species native to the Amazon Basin and surrounding river systems. While the marble form does not occur in the wild, its parent lineage comes from shallow rivers, floodplains, and marginal wetlands with nutrient-rich substrates and warm, stable freshwater conditions.

Marble Queen Sword forms a classic rosette growth pattern, with broad, oval to slightly lance-shaped leaves emerging from a central crown. What distinguishes this variety is its marbled patterning, with creamy white to pale yellow variegation overlaid on medium to deep green foliage. The contrast between light and dark areas creates a bold, ornamental look that stands out in planted aquariums. Mature leaves can reach 10 to 16 inches in length depending on lighting and nutrient availability, making it suitable for midground to background placement.

In the aquarium, Marble Queen Sword is best suited to medium and large tanks due to its eventual size. It should be planted in a nutrient-rich substrate, ensuring that the crown remains above the substrate line to prevent rot. Moderate lighting is sufficient for growth, though stronger lighting can enhance coloration and leaf size. Gentle to moderate water movement is appropriate, and the plant benefits from open space around the rosette to allow full leaf expansion.

Water conditions are adaptable. Marble Queen Sword thrives in temperatures between 72 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit, with a pH range of approximately 6.5 to 7.8 and soft to moderately hard water. Stability and consistent water quality are more important than exact parameter targets. CO₂ supplementation is not required but can encourage faster growth and larger leaves.

As a heavy root feeder, Marble Queen Sword benefits greatly from root tabs or a nutrient-dense substrate. Regular fertilization supports strong, healthy growth and maintains vibrant variegation. The plant grows at a moderate rate and may occasionally produce tall flower stalks that can develop plantlets, which can be separated and replanted once established.

Marble Queen Sword is generally compatible with community fish, though large herbivorous species may damage leaves. Its broad foliage provides shelter and visual structure within planted aquariums and serves as an effective background or focal point.

Marble Queen Sword is a bold, decorative sword plant that combines the classic durability of Echinodorus with eye-catching marbled variegation. Its manageable care requirements and strong visual impact make it an excellent choice for aquarists seeking a standout centerpiece plant.
